Who doesn’t love Erik Rubin? He has been a recognizable face in the Mexican pop band, Timbiriche since 1983. He was one of the three members of SBE (Sasha Benny Erik) and he has had a successful career on his own. And when you are stuck at home with your family, why not record new music with your daughter, who is an aspiring singer herself.
Erik and his daughter Mia put together an album that features favorite songs of SBE, Timbiriche, and Erik but also features new songs to showcase Mia’s vocal chops. We get to hear classics like “Muriendo Lento” and “Si No Es Ahora” and who doesn’t love those songs?
Mia’s voice is deep and sultry and it pairs well with Erik’s soulful vocals but remember, they are father and daughter when you hear those heart songs. The music is very laid back, simple. It’s like, let’s grab a few instruments and perform an acoustic-style concert. The album is twenty tracks long, just the right amount for a concert setting. All we are missing is the clapping of an audience between songs.
“Without a doubt, my father has been my great example. By his side, I have grown a lot and this gives me the opportunity to sing songs that I have heard throughout my life. I am very grateful for this opportunity that he gives me.” Mia stated in an interview.
Mia is only about 16 years old but her vocals are way more mature than that of a young teenager. She has been performing since she was little in stage plays and television. She gets her talent from both her mother and father. Mia’s mom, Andrea Legarette started her career in the pop group, Fresas. While she was only in the group a short while before the group disbanded, she had a lucrative acting career afterward. Erik met Andrea on the set of the Mexican soap opera, Alcanzar Una Estrella IIÂ in which they both starred.
The music has lots of Latin roots, many of the songs have a very Columbian feel to them. It’s a style that is popular in pop music at the moment. They seem to be using this duet album as a stepping stone for Mia’s debut album. Hints around the internet state that Erik is already working on music for it. Meanwhile, check out the album.
