As I sit here with my headphones on listening to the newest album, Sinapsis (Synapse) by the band Chica Sobresalto, I miss and envy physical media again. With my reviews, I sit and look at things like writers and producers of albums to look for names and similarities. For the band Chica Sobresalto, I found them online and have the music downloaded. I feel like I have nothing to look at while I listen. Oh, I miss the days when I had music in my hand.
I think the best song of Sinapsis is “Fusión del Núcleo” by Chica Sobresalto
Sorry for the above… Let’s focus on the music. The band (or should I say, singer_ has shown up of Apple’s recommended new music, so I am barely learning about this band. And yes, if you like them you can get vinyl and CDs of this album. Just saying. To me, she is a fairly new artist but they have an extremely high fan base. Chica Sobresalto is the alter ego of Maialen Gurbindo, who made an impression on Spain’s musical show, Operación Triunfo.
She signed with El Dromedario Records, which also manages artists such as Love of Lesbian and Sidonie. She seems to be in good hands with this album that switches between slow acoustic ballads and edgy pop music. You got to give the girl props for working with Randy Merrill, who mastered work by Taylor Swift, Foo Fighters, and Nick Jonas. This says something about the quality of the music we have here.
I think the best song of the album is “Fusión del Núcleo” (Core Fusion), a pop track that borders on rock. It’s edgy without being in your face. Another great song is “Dopamina” (Dopamine), another upbeat pop song. The album is the second from Chica Sobresalto. The debut album was released in 2017, so it’s been a while. During this time, she has released singles from this album and finally released the full album at the beginning of this year.
Check out the album and let us know what you think.
