Now that the world is reopening after a year of seclusion, we will be seeing more and more tours beginning. This week, two popular groups announced an upcoming tour. Pandora and Flans released a photo on social media of the two groups together.
With a title: Pandora & Flans Inesperado Tour. The word “inesperado” means unexpected and it is true. No one saw this tour announcement coming. Pandora and Flans both began around the same time in 1985 but they were very different groups with one similarity. 3 girls. Pandora was the easy-listening version of Flans, who were a few years younger and reached for the teen audiences. The parents of the teens listening to Flans were listening to Pandora.
This reminds me of Timbiriche vs Fresas. With the same style of members, Fresas were teenagers when Timbiriche started as kids. While Flans and Pandora didn’t have as many years difference between the ages, the music was a world apart. Even though they shared the pop charts. Pandora has ballads and soft pop songs with “Como Te Va Mi Amor” (How Are You Doing, My Love) and “Cuando No Estás Conmigo” (When You’re Not With Me). Flans had fans singing “No Controles” (You Don’t Control) and “Bazar” (Bazaar). The songs and themes could be more different.
No one saw this announcement coming for a tour with Pandora and Flans
If you notice something about the photo the two groups released; someone is missing. Pandora’s original members are there. Mayte, Isabel, and Fernanda are present but with Flans, we are lacking a third member. After the Flans reunion tour in 2014-2015, Ivonne said goodbye to her partners and wanted out of the spotlight. Without Ivonne, is Flans really Flans? Not really. Ilse and Mimi decided to form a new group/duo and record a few singles. Does this really surprise anyone? Nope.
If you had a chance to see Flans’ reunion tour, you might have noticed that Ivonne was absent when Ilse and Mimi sang covers like “No Podras” and “Barco A Venus.” The two remaining members of Flans are the energetic ones of the three and I feel the new version of Flans could do well in the future if they release new music and don’t rely on the oldies forever.
I was never a big fan of Pandora which might be a reason for me to skip this show, but I can see where ’80s music fans are excited to see this. What is your opinion on the Pandora/Flans tour? Let me know your thoughts below. Let’s chat.
