And here it is… Fandango’s fifth new single, “Todos Quieren Bailar Conmigo”. Rocio, Sandra, Alexa, and Anabella dropped the single at midnight with their fans on July 2, 2021. I was not at the launch but when I woke up that morning, I immediately turned on the song before I got out of bed. It was like nothing I would have expected to come from Fandango.
Doubletake to make sure this was my group. It was. Fandango took a very different turn for this release. The new remake of the popular song, “Todos Quieren Bailar Comigo” (Everyone Wants To Dance With Me) embraces an industrial sound. Together with their airy and seductive voices, this is a sound I never thought I would hear from them. Keeping everything on the hush-hush, I think a lot of fans might have been surprised.
When Fandango returned to the scene, we didn’t know where the group was headed. Maybe we still don’t. With this being the fifth single, we have various different sounds. Every one of them is great as a single. We have fun, we have seductive, we have acoustic, and now we have this industrial grunge. My preference is this new edgy but sexy sound which is followed by the same feel as the official video. Can we say WOW… If I didn’t consider them friends, I might totally look at them differently. I think this is a style and brand that can grow on them and hope to see more of it.
Fandango is in the perfect position to define their brand. Before they were five young girls in matching outfits and singing in a line. Today, the industry is different and so are fans. We are not limited to what radios and record labels shove down our throats. And artists don’t have to be puppets to industry big-wigs. As an indie artist, Fandango can develop themselves to their liking and if the music is good, fans will come. Sometimes it takes five songs to find the right fit.
I’ve spent a lot of time studying the history of Latin pop music and I have seen success and failures. Fandango’s sound and look with “Todos Quieren Bailar Conmigo” is something that I feel they can embrace and succeed with. Let’s see where they go from here. We are watching.
