Since the CD release, CD9’s Evolution has been on constant repeat. I think I know the songs well enough to be considered a “Coder”, the name of the group’s followers and fandom. The Mexican boy band, CD9 released its newest album this week and it seems to be doing well in sales already. No doubt it is because the group’s image and sound have rotated back to young teen idols again. Anyone who follows music knows the trends recycle about every ten years, so CD9 becomes the 10’s teen idols of the moment.
Vocally and musically, the group keeps growing and getting better. The first single, “Deja Vu”, was released at the beginning of the year and was an instant hit. It is the perfect pop song to get fans jumping. The second single, “I Feel Alive” was released in both Spanish and English. It was inevitable that the guys were going to record a few songs in English, that I can foresee them trying to break into the US market with their hit “I Feel Alive” as well as three other songs, one of which is an English version of “Deja Vu” that is entitled “Best Bad Move”
The band’s English is decent enough to crossover, but the transition will be nothing easy. We have seen many artists try their hand at recording in English with the attempts of crossing over and failed. CD9 would be trying to capture the same audiences as 5 Seconds of Summer and One Direction. And that is if the group decides to dive into the trend while the getting is good. It is possible that they could succeed because the music is just that good.
CD9’s Evolution has a good mix of vocal ranges to make a collective flow of music.
Sometimes, the hits are so good that they overshadow some of the other not so strong songs off the album, but CD9 was able to record a collective flow of music that goes well together and showcases the hits as well as bringing the romantic side to boybands to the fans. Now while I have not followed the band close enough to match the names of the members with voices; I think that for a music lover that is not so important. They have a good mix of tenors, baritones, and basses. This allows the harmony to mesh well and produce a great-sounding album. It has made some of the songs stick in my head and I find myself humming them while I am just hanging out.
CD9’s Evolution is available for streaming on Spotify, as well as iTunes USA. I have not seen it at a local Wal-Mart here in Houston but hopefully, the guys will have a decent following in the US to bring them and their music to the states.
