Mexican singer-songwriter, Mike Sierra might have been around for a while, but his music has fallen into our lap. We spent the morning getting to know Mike and his music with the album, “El Cielo Esta En La Tierra.”
We have been focusing a lot on new music, trying to keep up with new artists and albums released in 2016. When we found Mike Sierra’s album on Spotify, it had a release date of 2016. This apparently is incorrect. As we researched Mike and the record, it appears to have been published in 2014. Many online newspapers wrote articles on his album two years ago. Still, online outlets for music like Spotify and iTunes have the date as 2016. It is hard for me to know which category it falls into on our website. Because his website states 2014, we will post there. As I said, we have been focusing on new releases this year, but since we had already listened to more than half the album, we decided to keep going.
The balance between blues, rock, pop, and country blend well in “El Cielo Esta En La Tierra” by Mike Sierra
“El Cielo Esta En El Tierra” is a combination of funk, blues, rock, pop, and country. That is a lot of sounds on one album, but it isn’t spread out like a mixed tape. All those genres fall within one song and all the songs. The balance of various styles of music is played out perfectly with the ten tracks that make up the album. With his unique style of vocals, Mike Sierra sounds like a combination of Jose Feliciano and Beto Cuevas from La Ley. Yes, hard to imagine, but these are the two vocalists that come to mind while listening.
Mike Sierra began his music career studying at some of the prestigious music schools in Mexico. To get his feet wet, he sang backup vocals for artists such as Gustavo Cerati and Eli Guerra. Later he went on to create a band with Sabo Romo of Caifanes called Veltons. Now Mike Sierra is making his music as well as becoming part of the power trio K ‘AN.
Recently, Mike released a couple of acoustic tracks for digital and streaming outlets. You can follow Sierra on Twitter at @mikesierraa
