Checking on music news from Sony Music, they sent out an email announcing the release of a new video from a singer named Macaco. Dani Macaco hails from Spain and just released the second single off his seventh studio album. God, I need to find out who these people are because where have I been if this guy is on to his seventh album.
On first listen to the song, knowing that I have no clue of what Macaco’s music sounds like, it has a very familiar sound. His voice sounds so recognizable. Finally, I figured out is that he sounds like a Spanish, Kalimba (just the voice). Macaco nasally and high voice allows him to hit lots of high notes as he gives us a Jamaican influenced acoustic song that sounds very indie. I like how the song sounds so simple and not over complicated with instruments that don’t need to be there. I kinda describe the music as Kalimba meets Julieta Venegas.
The video is a cute little story about a boy who becomes infatuated with a young girl who works at the campsite where he living in a trailer. This story is mixed with Macaco strumming his guitar in the same campsite. It’s not overly complicated but tells a story with a beginning and an end, like a little movie.
In a nutshell, the whole package for the single is pretty darn good without fancy frills that don’t need to complicate things. It’s simple and fun and reminds me of music for a summer road trip. I recommend the single. I hope to be looking at reviewing the full album soon.
