I haven’t posted on this blog in a long time, and it usually takes a song or album to get me back into the swing of things, and this time it’s Thalia’s new single, “Psycho Bitch.”
I wasn’t expecting what I heard as I prepared to play the song. Thalia has been paying attention to where musical trends appear to be heading. The musical trends in Latin music have been so focused on high urban influences that all of your big names have kept the status quo, but that isn’t where world music is headed.
More pop music, dance club sounds, and anything that gets people dancing has dominated Top 40 music worldwide. Dua Lipa and Kylie Minogue have had such great success reintroducing dance pop music to the radio that producers know this is where the money is right now. Thalia has always followed trends, often pointing out where music is heading. I’m relieved to see that this hasn’t changed.
Thalia’s new song, “Psycho Bitch,” takes her so far away from her previous singles and albums that she almost appears to be a different person. Yes, we’ve seen this evolution many times throughout Thalia’s career. It’s nothing new for Thalia to be the first to turn her music into a current craze. The song transports the listener back to the dance clubs with some up-and-coming songwriters from Sweden, a country known for producing number one pop singles.
With music returning to disco-style pop, I predict that more and more artists will follow suit, which is great news for music fans who despised the descent into urbano hell. This new single bodes well for Thalia’s forthcoming new album. It’s been a year and a half or so since Thalia’s album desAMORfosis, which I believe was her worst album to date.
If you were a Thalia fan in the past but fell away due to her shift away from classic pop music, now is the time to return. “Psycho Bitch” is a fantastic song that truly defines a style in which Thalia reigns supreme.
