Honestly, I know nothing about Spanish singer, Saul Mateo other than finding him on Twitter with new music. When I checked out the song, I was honestly surprised. This song, “El Futuro” is right up my alley and within a few listens, I find myself singing along.
“El Futuro” (The Future) is a classic pop song with good rhythm and has a fun beat to it. Nothing overcomplicated or cheesy. Musically, I think this indie artist can do great things. His voice is warm and welcoming; I can’t find anything wrong with the song, at all. Perfect. I’ll add it to my daily rotation.
When I hunted the song down on Apple Music, I noticed that he also released an EP back in February. The EP is called Un Medio Tiempo En La Penumbra (A Half Time In The Twilight). It contains five tracks starting with one entitled, “Amaia Montero”. If you are not familiar with Amaia Montero, she is the former lead singer of the Spanish pop group, La Oreja De Van Gogh. I am not sure why the song is called that because I could not find where he mentions her in the lyrics.
The second track from the EP is an little softer. “Guerra Y Paz” (War & Peace) has a slower beat and is a little more poetic in its sound. “Afterhours”, the third single is back to that classic pop sound that we heard in “El Futuro”. The fourth song from the EP is a duet with Maria Sola or better known as Jordana B. We will talk about Jordana B. later on, but for now, this song. “La Distorsion” (The Distortion). It’s part ballad and part rock; a great combination and good flow.
The final track of the EP is “Tienes Un Match” (You Have A Match), which hints of an electronic beat to it. I think with the various different style, while not all that very different, Saul will find his sound and dig deep into it. Overall, I can not find anything wrong with Saul Mateo’s music. I love it and I’ll be following him to see what great things he will do in the future. On Siempre En Domingo, we like to find new artists and support them all we can, especially when the music is as good as Saul’s.
I am gonna post the track for the EP because this will give you a better mix of music to experience. Tell me what you think of his music, I’d like to know.
