Aleks Syntek Y La Gente Normal’s Lugar Secreto is end of an era
Aleks Syntek has always been one step ahead of music in Mexico and when Lugar Secreto came out in 1997, it was ahead of its time. Released under band name Aleks Syntek Y La Gente Normal, Aleks with his friends have been turning out albums with hit after hit and his 4th album was no exception.
Recorded in Los Angeles, California between August and September 1996, this album featured a more electro-acoustic sound and fusion between pop and heavy guitar, creating a more rock sound. This is the hardest album of Aleks’s career but also one of the most fun albums.
The sad part about this album is that Lugar Secreto marks the end of an era. Aleks Syntek broke away from using La Gente Normal as a background. All forthcoming albums are considered Aleks as a soloist. While León Chiprut left the group prior to this album, Michel Rojkind stayed on board for this last album providing the drum lines for this album.
The album all around is a fun, upbeat album that has great songs to sing a long with, so turn it up and jam out while driving down the road. It is worth it.

2021 UPDATE: This review was written in 2014, one of the first reviews ever written. It was short and badly written. I have corrected some of the major grammatical errors but left it mostly intact. Most of the music with La Gente Normal is not available on Apple Music so I may have to piece together his discography in order to go backward to review earlier albums. Lugar Secret seemed to be the album that truly elevated Aleks Syntek into main stream popular music. His music has always been main stream but he was our little secret until the release of this album. “Sin Ti” and “Lindas Criaturitas” both hit the charts. It was the latter song that truly boosted his popularity. I don’t necessarily think this is his best album from his discography but it was very well made.
